Former Pakistani pace bowler Aaqib Javed arrived in Dhaka on Friday to conduct a special fast bowling camp for the pacers under the High Performance Programme.
Aaqib will start his programme from today through conducting a four-day long specialised pace bowling camp, an expanded programme of the ongoing High Performance unit.BCB on July21 named 55 cricketers from four separate groups to have short term specialised training under the guidance of reputed coaches from home and abroad.
The cricketers include 23 batsmen, 16 pace bowlers, 12 spinners and four wicketkeepers.
The 25 regular members of HP unit are also part of these specialised groups.
As pace bowler Mehedi Hasan is injured and unable to attend the camp apart from being present in the theoretical sessions, selectors added Ariful Haque in the camp.
Later, Aaqib will conduct a two-day long camp with the national pace bowlers, where nine pacers from the 30-member preliminary national squad, have been called up.
They include paceman Mustafizur Rahman, who is unlikely to join the camp as he is injured and currently undergoing treatment in England.
The other national pacers to have been called up for Aaqib’s camp are- Mashrafee bin Murtaza, Rubel Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Al-Amim Hossain, Mohammad Shahid, Kamrul Islam , Shafiul Islam and Muktar Ali.
The pace bowlers are currently going through the strength and conditioning camp as part of preparation ahead of the home series against England.
Aaqib was one of leading candidates to take over the post of national bowling coach after the resignation of Heath Streak.
However, that could not be materialised as Aaqib’s Pakistan Super League franchise Lahore Kalandars refused to release him for the job.
