Eminent singer, writer and researcher Mustafa Zaman Abbasi has been honoured with lifetime achievement award.
The award will be conferred tomorrow at the Nazrul Mela to be held at the Channel-i premises at Tejgaon, marking the 114th birth anniversary of the national poet as informed by the organisers at a press conference held on Thursday morning at the private TV channel office.
In response to the recognition, Abbasi said, ‘I’m really happy and encouraged. It’s a big accomplishment for my small endeavours.’
Besides rendering Nazrul songs for half a century, Mustafa Zaman Abbasi has authored several books on Nazrul both in English and Bangla.
His fiction based on the biography on Nazrul titled Poribo Ekaki is a popular publication. He has written Nazrul Islam: Man and Poet in English targeting to introduce Nazrul’s life and works to the global audience.

cuses on the relationship between the poet and legendary singer Abbasuddin Ahmed, father of Abbasi.
‘I’ve got the recognition at the age of 76, Nazrul died when he was 76; I find a link between these two events. I have a plan to do more research based works to promote the gifted poet and musician to the global audience,’ Mustafa Zamna Abbasi told New Age.
Earlier, Channel-i honoured musicians and singers like Suhrab Hossain, Sudhin Das, Feroza Begum and Nazrul researcher professor Rafiqul Islam with lifetime achievement awards at the Nazrul Mela organised every year at the birth anniversary of the national poet.
Diamond World is sponsoring this year’s Nazrul Mela, which will feature exhibition, music, dance and recitation, said the organisers at the press conference.
