The police rescued an abducted schoolgirl and arrested five kidnappers from Madam Bibir Hat area under Sitakunda upazila in Chittagong on Wednesday.
The arrested were identified as Anwar Hosen, 22, Mohammad Hanif, 20, Nur Alam, 22, Abu Bakkar Siddique, 22, and Mumin Ullah, 20.
Officer-in-charge of Sitakunda police station Samiul Alam said Anwar Hosen, 22, son of one Nizam Uddin of Charhazari under Companiganj in Noakhali, proposed to marry
the Class IX student of a local school.
‘As the girl’s family turned down the proposal, Anwar continued to stalk the girl for long,’ OC Samiul added.
‘Anwar, along with four others, kidnapped the girl on her way to school and started for Chittagong in a micro-bus Wednesday morning,’ OC Samiul said, adding that, on
receiving information from Companigonj police, a team of Sitakunda police traced the microbus and stopped it at Madam Bibir Hat on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in the
afternoon and rescued the victim girl unhurt.
