Abstract art has already become popular in the arena of fine arts in the country; however, abstract photography still has relatively less exposure. Photography buffs can now get a taste of abstract photographs at a three-day exhibition at the Dhaka Art Centre at Dhanmondi in the capital. The ongoing photography exhibition titled 3rd Srishti-Sukher Ullas has been organised by Photoffee, an academy of fine arts and photography. The exhibition displays 50 images from 35 photographers.
Even though abstract photography is already an established genre of photography in some parts of the world, comparatively it’s a less known genre in Bangladesh. Most of the photos on display at the exhibition zoom in on shapes, forms, colours, patterns and textures. Thus the viewer can get defamiliarised with different known objects.
‘The exhibition was an attempt from Photoffee to popularise abstract photography in the country. All the photographers have done brilliantly to capture the images, which have also been further reworked on with the aid of Adobe Photoshop and other relevant softwares,’ said Sudeepto Salam, creative head of Photoffee, to New Age.
An arresting photograph by HZ Sagar on display, shows a black surface that has numerous leafy shapes that meander around. The image can suggest themes like interconnectedness of all that is.
However, there are some photographs that are easily comprehensible to the viewers. Mohammad Tanveer Hassan Rohan and Smith Sikder’s photographs are close shots of leaves. These images can make one realise that there are numerous beautiful minute details that we miss out on in our everyday lives.
Began on October 24, the exhibition will remain open for everyone from 3:00pm to 8:00pm today.
