Renowned actor, director and playwright Abul Hayat is very busy in acting for TV plays these days for which he cannot even mange much time for performing in the theatre and radio plays. Currently he is passing a tight schedule of acting in four plays ‘Bhalobashar Recipe’, ‘Sanibar Raat Dashta Challish Minutes’, ‘Proof Reader’ and ‘Mano Samikkhan.’ All the plays will be aired in the upcoming Eid festival on different TV channels.
Abul Hayat began his acting career in theatre in mid 1950s. In his acting career of over half a century, the versatile actor has performed in different mediums including theatre, radio, TV and films and has won more than 150 prestigious awards such as Sequence Award for Merit provided by Shilpakla Academy, National Film Award, Meril-Prothom Alo Award, Sheltech Awards, and others.
‘I feel comfort working in all the mediums of entertainment. But, these days I’m only performing in TV plays and films for which I’m almost detached from theatre and radio, but I miss both the mediums,’ Abul Hayat, the Vice President and a founder member of the popular theatre troupe Nagorik Natya Sampradaya, told New Age.
In evaluating the current trend of TV plays, Hayat expressed a mixed reaction. ‘Because of the random commercialisation, TV plays sometimes lose the strength of story-line, and depict some unnecessary and fictitious reality. But despite of such constraints, some talented young directors with academic knowledge are producing quality plays,’ Hayat told New Age.
Besides acting, Hayat also writes and directs TV plays. So far, he has directed over 20 TV plays. ‘Direction is always a challenging job; however I enjoy it very much. And as a playwright, I try to address the social amoralities and harsh realities, since I believe that a playwright must have some responsibilities to the society,’ said Hayat.
He stated that at present he is directing three plays, ‘Chithi’, ‘Shudhu Ektu Biroher Jonnye’, and ‘Duet’, and also writing a play for TV and periodicals for upcoming Eid.
Hayat further informed that he has been very selective in acting in films from the very beginning of his acting career that started in 1972. ‘At present I am working in two films directed by Iftekhar Ahmed Fahmi and FI Manik’, said Hayat.
The busy artiste hardly has any leisure moment. He passes his leisure in reading whenever he gets any.
