Chairman of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) M Badiuzzman on Wednesday told reporters that the main accused of the Padma Bridge corruption conspiracy case Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, secretary of Bridges Division, met him with permission. “There is no legal bar for him to meet us as he is now on bail,” said the ACC chief while talking to reporters at his office.
The prime accused Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan on Tuesday met the ACC chairman and other commissioners at the ACC headquarters.
The ACC boss said that Mosharraf did not try to influence the commission and he has no power to do so.
Replying to a question, he said that Mosharraf sought justice from the commission.
An ACC team on December 26, 2012 arrested Mosharraf at Shahbagh in the capital in connection with the alleged corruption.Earlier, he was made an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in December last year. He has been on leave to fulfill a condition of the World Bank to revive its funding for the Padma Bridge project.
The World Bank cancelled its $1.2 billion funding for the $2.9 billion project in 2012 saying that it had a proof of a ‘corruption conspiracy’ involving Bangladeshi officials, executives of a Canadian firm, and some individuals.
On February 5, a Dhaka court granted bail to Mosharraf Hossain and superintendent engineer of Bangladesh Bridge Authority Kazi Mohammad Ferdous in Padma bridge graft case. On June 5, the government withdrew the suspension order from Mosharraf Hossain.
