The residential halls at Rajshahi University reopened on Tuesday amid tight security and the regular classes will resume today after the vacation of Eid-ul-Azha and Puja.
The security measures have been tightened through deploying additional police at the halls and on the campus to avert any untoward situation.The RU proctor, Tariqul Hasan, said the responsibilities of keeping the campus environment peaceful had been handed over to the law enforcers.
The university authorities have asked the students, teachers and employees to carry their university identity card to be allowed on the campus.
As the halls reopened on Tuesday, the police let students in after checking their identity cards and bags at the entrance gates and hall gates of the university.
The proctor said that the university security had been tightened because of the ongoing political unrest of the country.
A Bangabandhu Hall official said that the security measures had been tightened as a rumor was spread out on facebook during the vacation that the Shibir men would take over the supremacy at the university.
Following the rumour the university authorities decided to reopen the halls on October 29 instead of on October 24, he said.
The Motihar police officer-in-charge, Abdus Sobhan, said additional police were deployed as the Shibir men might try to create anarchy on the campus.
