In these times of economic crisis and a relatively sober, gift-less Diwali, Delhi needed some hilarity, and that’s just what it got.
Stand-up comedian of Indian descent, Russell Peters, was in the National Capital to raise the spirits of the people and bring them out of their doledrums.
Apart from his usual act, the comedian who has been brought up in Canada, made a surprising statement in an interview with NDTV, about the most popular and successful Indian actress – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
He said, “If you look good, you can act in a Bollywood movie, you don’t have to be able to act; and Aishwarya Rai is a great example of this. She is a beautiful woman.”
He went on, “You look at her, I want to look at her. Damn, she is fine; but stop acting or stop trying to act. Just be happy being this guy’s wife, keep endorsing, modelling with the big eyes.”
Not only is Aishwarya Rai India’s icon across the world, she is also now the ‘bahu’ of the first family of Indian cinema – the Bachchans, and it takes some daring to lash out at her, but Peters managed and so far he has got away it.
This unsolicited advice works as an early birthday present for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who will tun 35 this weekend. The question now is, what will she do with it.
