The three-day-long Ijtema, the largest congregation of Tablig-e-Jamaat, is going to be concluded today with the ‘Akheri Munajat’, which began after the Fazr prayer on Friday on the bank of river Turag. Hundreds of thousands of devotees yesterday passed the second day of Ijtema listening to sermons delivered by Islamic scholars seeking blessings from the almighty Allah.
Maulana Abdul Wahab from Pakistan delivered the day’s first sermon after Fazr prayers while Maulana Mosharraf Hossain from Bangladesh delivered his sermon after Zohr prayers. The sermons were translated into different languages including Arabic, Urdu and Persian.
A number of dowry-free marriages were solemnised after Asr prayers.
President Dr Iajuddin Ahmed, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Opposition Leader Begum Khaleda Zia are likely to attend the ‘Akheri Munajat’ which will be conducted by Maulana Jubayer Al-Hasan from India.
Two devotees died on Friday night and Saturday morning.
Haji Abdul Hye, 87, of Jamalpur district died of cardiac arrest on Saturday while Bellal Hossain, 32, of Netrakona, was run over by a microbus in Tongi on Friday.
Police yesterday arrested 42 people from the Ijtema ground on charge of pick-pocketing.
