The first show of international dance superstar Akram Khan’s dance production Desh, has been rescheduled due to the hartal called by Jamaat-e-Islami on Thursday. The show that was supposed to begin on Thursday is now scheduled to kick off on Friday evening at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. There will be a second show at the same venue on Saturday evening. Bengal Foundation, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and British Council have jointly organised Desh, a solo dance drama by Akram Khan. ‘The audiences will not have to collect new cards for Saturday’s show as the cards meant for Thursday will be applicable on that day also. We are really sorry for the inconvenience,’ Sarwar Jahan Chowdhury, senior arts programme manager of Bengal Foundation, told New Age about rescheduling of the show.
Desh, which is an 80-minute solo by Akram Khan, explores the vulnerability of human beings against natural forces, and also celebrates the resilience of human spirit in the face of adversity. The solo will also explore Khan’s relationship with his other homeland Bangladesh.
