Akram Khan withdrew his resignation letter yesterday to continue as the chief selector.
The former captain, who submitted his resignation letter three days back in protest of interference from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president AHM Mustafa Kamal regarding selection of the Asia Cup squad, explained the reasons behind the withdrawal during a press conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
“I have withdrawn the resignation letter. The day before yesterday the honourable Prime Minister asked me to meet her. We discussed every aspect of cricket and she’s assured that there won’t be any more problems,” said Akram.
“(BCB’s influential director Dewan Shafiul Arefin) Tutul bhai got out of her office and informed me that she has advised me to withdraw the letter,” he added.
Akram came down heavily on the BCB president AHM Mustafa Kamal after submitting his resignation letter and pointed out some problem he had faced as a chief selector.
So the question to the former national captain was an obvious one: Can he continue working under the presidency of Kamal?
“I won’t let those things happen again. I will work with full freedom,” said a confident Akram.
