Awami League (AL), the country’s oldest political party, will observe its 64th founding anniversary on Sunday. Founded on June 23, 1949 at the historic Rose Garden in the old part of Dhaka, the party played the lead role in all democratic movements apart from leading the nation in the War of Liberation in 1971 under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Awami League has chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the day.
The programmes of the day will start through hoisting of the national flag as well as party flag in its central office and offices across the country at sunrise.
The leaders and activists of the party will place wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi in the city at 7 am.
The party will also organise a mass rally around 3.30 pm from Shikha Chirantan at Suhrawardy Udyan and will end at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi.
Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam in a statement urged all leaders and activists of the party to observe the day in a befitting manner.
