Work for 47 Parliamentary committees going on

Awami League leaders, deprived of getting different portfolios in the incumbent cabinet, would be evaluated in various aspects. Some mid-level AL lawmakers might be included in some 47 Parliamentary Committees likely to be raised in the adjourned session of the Jatiya Sangsad tomorrow (Wednesday).
The upcoming session will discuss about some 122 ordinances – earlier approved by the erstwhile Caretaker Government and discussion on the speeches of President Prof Iajuddin Ahmed, delivered on the inaugural session on Sunday evening.
Talking to The Bangladesh Today, Dhirentra Debnath Shambhu, one of the panel members of the Parliament, said, “The work for forming different Parliamentary Committees is going on in full swing. Formation of committees would be completed in phases.”
Earlier, panel of Presidents and Parliamentary Working Committee were formed on Sunday. Considering outstanding contributions, AL high-up had shown due honour to some senior leaders, even reformists’ ones in the inaugural session in JS, sources said.
Some AL senior MPs -Sajeda Chowdhury, Tofail Ahmed, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim – were given seats even in the Treasury Bench while so-called ‘reformists’-Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzak and Abdul Jalil were seen in the front at another row in the parliament. Meanwhile, many influential ministers were allowed to sit in the back bench.
On the other hand, names of Sajeda Chowdhury, Tofail Ahmed, Sheikh Selim, Suranjit Sengupta, Abdul Matin Khasru, Advocate Rahmatullah and Rashed Khan Menon belong to the AL-led Grand Alliance were included in the 15-member Parliamentary Working Committee.
Most of the senior leaders – with mentionable previous political background – might be assigned to revitalise political activities of the party, said another source adding “Hectic lobbying is going on centering some 47 Parliamentary Committees likely to be constituted as priority basis. Initially some 39 committees would be formed.”
Names of about two dozens lawmakers have already come in the discussion for Presidents in different Parliamentary Committees. They include: Subid Ali Bhuyain, Abdul Awal, Advocate Meer Shawkat Ali Badsha, Mirza Ajam, Engineer Mujibur Rahman, Jahid Malek Swapon, Kamal Ahmed Mjumder, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Advocate Quamrul Islam, Nurul Islam Sujon and Jatindra Lal Tripura.
In the committees, members from the opposition side will also be included as per the ratio of their seats in the parliament. It may be mentioned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina earlier announced this at a press briefing.
Some opposition MPs are reportedly contacting with the proper channel expressing their eagerness for those committees.
