Ali Raj became the first Bangladeshi to win the Merlin Award, the Oscar in magic, in the category of the ‘Best Family Magic Show’ given every three years by the International Magicians Society.
The society’s chief executive officer and world president Tony Hassini handed over the award to Ali Raj in a ceremony at Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The achievement has put Ali Raj in the House of Fame for illusionists along with world famous magicians David Copperfield, Harry Blackstone and Criss Angel of the United States and many others.
Ali Raj was one of the 10 finalists chosen from more than a hundred contestants from all over the world.
The IMS, which has more than 37,000 members worldwide, has been giving the Merlin Award since 1968.
