The Bangladesh Cricket Board is taking all necessary steps to ensure women’s cricket team’s Pakistan tour goes as planned, officials said on Sunday. The formal announcement for the tour was delayed due to the absence of BCB president Nazmul Hasan, who is currently in Canada on a private visit. The BCB was hoping Nazmul would return on Sunday but he informed that it will take him three more days.
Despite the delay in formal announcement, officials said they cannot sit idle as time is running.
‘We are making necessary arrangements, so that team can fly in a short notice,’ said BCB’s chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury. ‘We cannot sit back as the country is soon going for Eid holidays.
As part of the arrangement, the BCB already booked the flights and also confirmed the 15-member squad.
BCB spokesman Rabeed Imam said they will not announce the squad until the tour is confirmed.
‘The players, who have been selected, were informed so that they can be ready. But we are not going to announce the team until BCB makes a decision in this regard,’ he said.
BCB’s women’s committee chairman Abdul Awal, however, said the tour is all but confirmed.
‘We are satisfied with the security arrangements. We have some observations which our CEO informed Pakistan authority,’ he said.
‘Hopefully they will make necessary adjustment before we make the formal announcement.’
Bangladesh women’s team is scheduled to play two one-day matches and as many Twenty20 internationals during their short visit, scheduled to start on September 27.
The matches of the series will be held in Karachi and Lahore with each city expected to host a one-day international and Twenty20 international.
Three uncapped players – left-arm spinner Nahida Islam, opener Sharmin Akter and wicketkeeper Nigar Sultana – are expected to make the tour for Bangladesh.
