A full-hall audience was entertained by seasoned and young folk singers at a programme on Tuesday at Music and
Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpkala Academy.
Bangladesh Loka Sangeet Parishad organised the programme to celebrate the forthcoming Independence Day.
In befitting stentorian voices, the artistes presented a few folk-leaning patriotic songs and pure folk numbers at the programme. A few songs from the list of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra were also presented.
Secretary of cultural affairs ministry Ranjit Kumar Biswas, founding president of the Loka Sangeet Parishad and seasoned folk singer Indramohan Rajbanshi delivered speeches before the song recitals.
Both of them spoke highly of folk music, and its inseparable connection with people at large. They also recollected how popular folk music was during the war of independence.
The performance began with chorus presentation of two folksy patriotic songs — Eso Gai Desher Joy Gaan and Amar Bangladesher Majhi Bhai. Both the songs were common and regular renditions on Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.
Two other songs — Nai-er Badam Tuila De and Ke Ke Jabi — of that time were presented solo by Indramohan Rajbanshi, a leading singer of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra.
The seasoned singer, however, moved the audience with his presentation of Fakir Lalon Shah’s Mon Amar Chharo Gourab.
The audience also enjoyed presentation of folk numbers that are not much familiar to the urban ear.
Abdul Aziz’s recital of folk bard Chan Miah’s romantic-sentimental song Bhabe Ke Koy Pirit Bhala, Abdur Rahim’s presentation of Hason Raja’s popular number Matir Pinjirar Majhe, Selina Alam’s presentation of Pran Bondhur Birohe earned acclaim from the audience.
The show drew a commendable number of audience.
Raisul Kabir, a resident of Segunbagicha, enjoyed the show. Folk songs performance, especially those of Fakir Lalon Shah, delighted me,’ said Kabir.
Bushra Akhtet Sathi, a college student who came with her father, said that she was pleased to listen to songs of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra at the programme.
