Beautifully choreographed pieces of kathak enthralled audiences at a programme, held at Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Sunday evening. The programme titled ‘Parampara Kathak Nritya Sandhya’ was organised by popular dance organisation Nrittyanchal. Noted dancer from India, Guru Sree Sandip Mallick and one of his current students, Nrittyanchal artiste Monira Parvin Happy presented solo renditions at the programme.
The programme opened with a group dance recital by Nrittyanchal artistes. The dancers, with their sharp spins and signature kathak steps and postures, entertained the viewers.
Next up on stage was Monira Parvin Happy, who impressed the spectators with her recital.
Guru Sree Sandip Mallick made kathak appear easy and effortless when he took the stage.
The last presentation of the evening was perhaps one of the most memorable ones of the evening, as both the master Mallick and his student Happy took the stage for a beautifully choreographed number.
Shamim Ara Nipa and Shibley Mohammad, directors of Nrityanchal; Mizanur Rahman, vice chancellor of Jagannath University; Afsar Ahmed, professor of the Theatre Department of Jahangirnagar University; were present at the programme as guests.
