Four plays staged in 3-day fest
Chittagong based troupe Anadikalpa had organised a three-day theatre festival at Chittagong Shilpakala Academy to
celebrate its fifth founding anniversary.
Local vernacular daily Azadi editor MA Malek inaugurated the festival as the chief guest on April 18. The festival ended on April 20.
Dwelling on the journey of Anadikalpa, Masudur Rahman, the troupe leader said that their five-year journey was not smooth at all. ‘Rather, it was a bumpy ride I would say and we had to face many odds in our way’, said Rahman, adding that they would continue to fulfill their commitment with renewed vigour in the days to come.
Anadikalpa staged a total of four dramas in the three-day festival. On the inaugural day, the troupe staged a mimo-drama titled ‘Prakrity O Purusher Galpa’. On the second day, two mono dramas were staged titled ‘Manush?’ and ‘Banduk’. ‘Manush?’ was written by Rahman while ‘Banduk’ was adapted by him from a play by Alex Brown, an Australian playwright.
On the concluding day, the troupe staged ‘Khichuri Rajjyer Goppo’, a drama rewritten by Rahman from compilation of two dramas by the noted playwright Mamtajuddin Ahmed. The drama satirised state laws, bureaucracy and civil rights.
Rahman directed all the four dramas staged at the festival.
