Artist Nazia Andaleeb Preema revealed how news is manipulated and distorted through her live performance titled Newsagony at the Nalini Kanta Bhattacharia hall of Bangladesh National Museum on Saturday.
Preema’s performance was a part of artist Wakilur Rahman’s visual art exhibition titled Khobor Khaddo organised to celebrate the 15 years of the Bangla daily Prothom Alo that began on November 09.
Covered with blood-smeared bandages from the top to the bottom, the artist appeared on her performing space with a green mask. Subsequently she started crawling and screaming to illustrate the heart-wrenching pain one feels.
Her convincing attire and spontaneous enactment of agony arrested the eyes of the audience.
‘To my understanding, news reports published these days are in trauma. To visualise the distortion of the facts and to present a “half true” reported in the dailies, I performed in this manner covering my body with bandages,’ Preema told New Age.
Apart form Preema two more artistes presented live performances in the evening. Covered herself with a white saree, artist Sumona Akter performed her live performance Ebong Dropodira to narrate the fact that the women have no freedom in the male dominated society.
Actor Ritu Sattar presented the other live performance depicting the flow of news in the country titled Howai Bhasa Khabor.
