Bangladesh swimmer Anik Islam finished in 61st position among 78 participants in the World Swimming Championship at Barcelona on Sunday after clocking 26.69 seconds in the 50-metre butterfly event.
Anik, who represents Bangladesh Navy, can take some consolation from his performance as he ended the race as the best South Asian swimmer among four contestants.
Former BKSP pupil Anik was the gold medal winner in the 50-metre butterfly event after recording 26.01 seconds on the clock in the 8th Bangladesh Games in April.
Meanwhile, Mahfizur Rahman Sagor, one of Bangladesh’s best swimmers, will take to the pool on Friday in the 50-metre free-style.
Another Bangladeshi swimmer, Mahfuza Akhter Shila will partake in the 50-metre breast-stroke event on Saturday. Shila won silver in the 50 and 100-metre breast-stroke event at the South Asian Games in Dhaka in 2010.
