Bangladesh swimmer Anik Islam will hit the pool today in the 50 metre butterfly event of the World Swimming Championship in Barcelona, Spain,
targeting to improve his own previous best timing.
Anik clinched the gold medal in the Bangladesh Games with his best timing of 26.01 seconds.
Mahfizur Rahman Sagar and Mahfuza Akhter Shila will compete on August 2 and 3 respectively. Sagar, who represented Bangladesh in the London Olympics, will vie in the 50m freestyle and Shila will take part in her favourite 50m breaststroke.
‘I am practising at the venue of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and will compete here too. Everything is going according to plan. I hope to set my best timing here,’ said Sagar from Barcelona on Saturday.
The three swimmers are being accompanied by the Bangladesh Swimming Federation general secretary Rafizuddin and joint secretary MB Saif, although they have no coach accompanying them.
