Dhaka Metropolitan Court on Sunday granted bail to classic pop singer Arfin Rumey in a case filed by his first wife under Women and Children Repression Act. According to the court sources, Magistrate Anwar Sadat granted bail to the singer and his brother Yasin Rony after Rumey’s first wife Lamia Akhter Ananya told the court that she had no objection to her husband being given bail. Earlier on Friday night, Ananya filed a case with Mohammadpur Police Station bringing repression allegations against her husband. “Rumi recently beat his wife severely,” said the case statement. According to the case statement, Rumi physically tortured Ananya for a dowry of Tk 20, lakh even after two years of their marriage. Sub Inspector Aminul Islam, Investigation Officer of the case told The Independent that on October 24 last year, Rumi married an America repatriate and from then on began torturing Ananya even more. Rumi lived on the third floor along with his second wife, mother and family members while his first wife lived on the second floor of the same building located at Katashur area in the capital. Rumi did not pay for the expenses of his first wife. Ananya alleged that recently Rumi along with his brother Rony and mother Nasima Akter severely beat her up. Leaving their residence in a seriously injured state she filed a case against Rumi, his brother and mother.
