The Department for Environment held a children’s art competition on 12 September in Agargaon, Dhaka, for World Ozone Day 2025.
This year’s theme, “From science to global action,” was translated into Bengali as “Biggyansommoto kormo, ozone rokkhay bormo,” which means actions guided by science, commitment to ozone protection. The theme inspired participants to create artworks on environmental protection and climate change, said a press release.
The contest attracted nearly 350 children under the age of 16, including those with special educational needs. Organisers divided participants into four groups based on age and skill level.
Dr Kamruzzaman, NDC, Director General of the Department for Environment, attended the event to encourage the participants. Also in attendance were Md Ziaul Haque, Director (Air Quality Management); Md Abdullah Al Masud, Director (Administration); and Md Mohiuddin Manik, National Project Director of the ODS Phase-10 Project.
The competition aimed to raise awareness among young people about the importance of protecting the ozone layer and tackling climate change through creative expression.
