The art in architectural designs and structures has been depicted in a month-long exhibition at Bengal Art Lounge at Gulshan 1 in Dhaka.
The exhibition titled To Live Is to Be Slowly Born depicts nine models of different exotic and important structures designed by
the noted architect Kashef Chowdhury.
One of the displays at the exhibition is the model of a cyclone shelter situated in the coastal area of the country. The building is shaped like an octagon with a cross-shaped core. The spiraling design of the building gives an impression of an artwork rather than a replica of an actual building.
Office tower in Mohakhali is another very attractive model at the exhibition. The skyscraper consisting of 14 floors has four large walls at the four corners of the building and only the floors, through glass, can be seen between the large walls. The building creates a sense of strength and perfection in the minds of the viewers.
The visitors would also be astonished seeing the human capability of making large structures with utter perfection and artistic vision when they come across the model of Ittefaq Bhaban. The skyscraping eye-shaped glass structure stands sixteen storied high into the sky.
A building is not a mere structure of brick, cement and glass rather it is a demonstration of human’s natural urge to build something bigger and greater. One such large creation is the Friendship Hospital in Satkhaira. A complex set on a large area containing numerous rooms, corridors, halls, balconies designed in an organised manner compels the visitors to contemplate about human excellence of creating large structures.
As a celebrated architect, Kashif Chowdhury has won many prizes including the AR+D Emerging Architecture Award in London, JK Architect of the Year Award, Independence Monument and Liberation War Museum Award, and others.
Inaugurated on December 13, the exhibition will remain open for all from 12:00 to 8:00pm till January 13.
