Professor Mansurul Karim has received this year’s Sultan Award-2014 for his contributions towards art in the country at the concluding ceremony of week-long Sultan Mela on Tuesday in Narail.
State minister of Youth and Sports Biren Sikder handed over the award to artist Mansurul Karim at the concluding ceremony of the fair organsied every year jointly by Bangladesh Shikpakala Academy, the cultural ministry, the district administrator of Narail and SM Sultan Foundation. Each year a prominent artist is conferred with the award by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on the last day of the fair.
Artist Mansurul Karim was born in Rajbari district in 1950. He received his graduation from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University in 1972. Later he completed his master degree in fine arts from the Chittagong University in 1974. He is presently a professor at the same university. In his long and eventful career, Karim has held 14 solo exhibitions across the country. He has also been awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2009. Besides, Karim is also the recipient of several national and international awards including Lalitakala Academy Award from India, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award, 6th Asian Art Biennale Award, etc.
