Eminent artist SM Sultan’s 88th birth anniversary was observed on Friday in Masumdia village in Narail, the birth place of the artist.
Different cultural organisations including SM Sultan Shishu Charu-O-Karukala foundation held an array of programmes to celebrate day.
The programmes included placing flower wreaths at the grave of the artist, children art competition, discussion session and prize giving ceremony.
Narail deputy commissioner Mohammad Zahurul Haque was present at the function as chief guest. Administrator of the Narail Zila Parishad Subash Bose, member secretary of Sultan Foundation Ashikur Rahman Miku, district cultural officer Saiful Hasan Milon were also present as special guests at the discussion session presided over by educationist Sharif Atier Rahman.
Sheikh Mohammed Sultan (1923–1994), better known as SM Sultan was a world renowned painter. Sultan was born on 10 August 1923 in Masimdia, Narail district and died in 1994. For his contributions towards art, Sultan was declared the Man of Asia in 1982 by University of Cambridge.
