The practice of art exhibitions is quite different in developed countries, where an artist exhibits his or her works in private studio at first, before displaying their artworks in galleries.
Organising exhibitions in museums for reaching a larger number of visitors comes to artists living abroad as rather a final goal.
However, unfortunately, the first and last phases of this conventional procedure is almost entirely missing in the art arena of Bangladesh, as local artists have to mainly depend on galleries for displaying their works.
Noted artist Najib Tareque has tried to bring about a change in this regard and turned his private art studio into a galley by organising his solo exhibition there.
‘Our art has developed and I want our artists to be self-reliant and display their works independently,’ said Tareque to New Age.
The exhibition titled Studio 1: Just a Painting Show is going on at apartment 602, building 13, Japan Garden City in Mohammadpur, Dhaka.
The show displays 80 paintings, some of which are titled while others are not.
Tareque has used different mediums like oil and acrylic. The artist has shown considerable expertise with all the mediums that he has used and his works have abundant use of colours that demand attention.
He has mostly used bold strokes and striking colours to depict human faces and figures, birds, and different geometrical structures that reveal deeper meaning upon contemplation.
In an untitled painting, a man and a woman are depicted in perfect harmony. Besides, a flower can also be seen in that painting where the duo seems to be attuned with each other and the flower.
Launched on May 29, the exhibition will remain open to all from 9:30am to 11:30pm till June 10.
