Bangladeshi shooter Shakil Ahmed clinched bronze in the 10-metre Air Pistol (junior) event of the 8th Asian Air Gun Championship, held in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Shakil scored 175.2 points in the final round to earn the bronze medal. He qualified for the shoot-off round after finishing sixth among seven contestants with 552 points.Sumedh Kumar of India grabbed the gold medal scoring with 199.1 points while his compatriot Hemendra Kushwaha scored 195.2 points to earn silver.
Shakil is the only shooter among the nine-member Bangladeshi contingent to clinch a medal in the championship.
The two more illustrious members of the contingent —Abdullah Hel Baki and Sharmin Akhter Ratna failed to deliver any notable performance so far in the meet.
Baki finished seventh in the final round while Ratna failed to qualify for the final round and finished 13th among 15 participants in their respective 10-metre Air Rifle event.
