Asian Centre for Environmental Health (ACEH), a new environmental organization, has started its journey here with the aims of eliminating environmental toxins in Asia-Pacific region, reports UNB. ANM Shamsuddin Azad Chowdhury, additional secretary to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, inaugurated the operation of the centre at the conference room of Environment and Social Development Organization (ESDO) in the capital’s Lalmatia on Saturday. The Dhaka-based centre jointly funded by ESDO and World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry-WAMFD,USA will perform as “think tank” in developing ideas, policies, and strategies to reduce and eliminate environmental toxins in Asia and the Pacific. It will be a hub for national and local governments, local institutions, international charity, and also for a range of NGOs, Media and general people from the overall region. Former environment secretary and ESDO Chairperson Syed Marghub Murshed, ESDO executive director Siddika Sultana, additional chief engineer of Department of Public Health Dewan NaquibAhsan and Associate Professor of Bangladesh Medical College Shakil Akter were, among others, present.
