Expatriate footballer Anando Rahman left the national football team’s preliminary camp for the SAFF Championship on Wednesday, having been unable to
cope with the humid conditions, officials said.
Anando, a resident of Australia who plays for second division side Sydney University, pulled out of the national camp four days after he started training under Dutch assistant coach Rene Koster.
‘This (Wednesday) morning Anando told the coach that he is not feeling well and cannot carry on in the humid conditions and the coach told him that it is alright, he can go,’ national team manager Iqbal Hossain told reporters.
It was learned that Anando wanted to leave the camp on Tuesday night after playing a warm-up match in the BFF’s artificial turf, but he was told to follow protocol and wait for the assistant coach Koster, who is now in charge of the camp.
Anonda was one of the three expatriate footballers to be invited to the preliminary camp for the SAFF. Denmark-based Jamal Bhuyan is continuing to train and German-based Reasat Khatun is expected to join the camp next week.
Meanwhile, left-back Ashraf Mahmud Linkon is suffering from dehydration and has been admitted to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. He is, however, expected to be released from the hospital soon.
‘He has been suffering from a mild fever but he never informed us of his condition and he got muscle cramps during today’s training,’ said Iqbal.
Head coach Lodewijk de Kruif is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on Friday to take charge of the national team.
