Temperatures around the world might have started to cool down after the heat of the long summer. But the world event calendar of festivals is just starting to heat up with celebrations of autumn.The season autumn is celebrated all over the world for the unique beauty it brings along and more importantly for its relevance to the beginning of the agrarian processes. Writers and poets from across the world have expressed their joy in the arrival of the season in numerous word-pictures through various poems and songs. Bangladeshi writers and poets are no exception.
The romantic aspect of the season stimulates the writers of the country to write songs and poems celebrating the different attributes of autumn. Even today’s writers present the beauty of the season in their works through the portrayal of the blue sky with its playfully floating clouds, the trees with their fresh green leaves and the city sprouting with vibrant and colourful flowers everywhere. Anyone in Bangladesh, in this season, is sure to find Kashphul mentioned somewhere or the other as it symbolizes the emergence of the season.
Like every year, autumn was welcomed this year with a celebratory programme held on the grounds of Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka today. Satyen Sen Shilpy Gosthi organized the progrmme where individual artistes and cultural organisations presented songs, dance and poems. The programme was divided in two phases – morning and afternoon phases.
Swabhumi Lekhok Shilpy Kendra was the first to perform in the morning session. The autumn celebrations took off with the presentation of the patriotic song Sato swapner desh ache ei manchitrey. To demonstrate autumn celebrated in the rural areas, which is often more vibrant way than that in cities, a folk song Hawa batash nirob hoilo was presented by the artistes of Banhishikha that presented the scenes of an autumn morning in rural settings.
Rabindranath Tagore, a romantic poet who wrote numerous songs on monsoon and nature, was also remembered through the charming songs on season autumn. Such a song Sarat tomar arun alloy was presented by the singers of Satyen Sen Shilpy Gosthi. The chorus also presented Tagore’s Esho sarod prater atithi.
Nazrul’s timeless song depicting the beauties of autumn Shuily tolay bhor belai was soulfully presented by Dhruvo Shishu Kishore Sangathan.
Dancers of Sapandan presented a group dance with Aji dhaner khete roudro chhyai. The sky blue attire of the dancers dancing in fast space worked as a reminder to the audience about the clear, blue sky of autumn.
In solo presentations, Mohiduzzaman Chowdhury Moyna, Nasima Shahin Fency and Biman Chandra Biswas entertained the gathering with their soulful presentation of Sukorun benu bajay ke jay, Dur probase kaade aj sarater bhor and Aji saroter akashey.
Naila Tabassum Kakoli recited poet Kali Das’s Sarat Bornona.
A children’s art competition was also held at the event that brought a different taste to the programme.
