Avery Dennison Retail Branding and Information Solutions, a US labelling and packaging materials company, on Sunday pledged to invest more in Bangladesh to better serve customers, promote workplace safety and improve workers’ living standard.
At a press conference in the city, Shawn Neville, president of Retail Branding and Information Solutions for Avery Dennison Corporation, said they wanted to promote sustainable, socially-compliant business conduct and fair labour practices in Bangladesh.
In Bangladesh the Avery Dennison Foundation will invest in a life skills programme to support access to educational programmes that address access to clean water, farming practices, small business and food programmes, he said.
‘We are remaining committed to supporting the apparel industry in Bangladesh through invests in our employees and local community as we have a strong presence in the country for last 10 years with $50 million yearly turnover,’ Shawn said.
The company will continue to invest in their more than 1,000 employees in Bangladesh to stress training programmes, safe working conditions and ethical business practices, he said.
Dean Scarborough, chairman, president and CEO of Avery Dennison Corporation, said that corporate social responsibility, including employees’ safety and sustainability, was a key foundation of their business practices in Bangladesh.
‘I am proud of the progress we have made in Bangladesh since we opened our first plant ten years ago and we are committed to investing further in our employees, customers and community,’ he said.
Replying to a question over the suspension of GSP facilities in the US market, Dean said that Bangladesh was an important marketplace and the business of clothing industry was increasing.
