The High Court (HC) yesterday granted bail to Abdul Majid, the chairman of a union under Satkhira district, on condition that he will plant 50 trees.
The HC bench of Justice Enayetur Rahim and Justice Mohammad Ullah granted the bail for six months to Abdul Majid, chairman of Shialdanga union parishad, in a case filed against him for cutting down roadsides trees in the area.
The HC asked the accused to plant 50 trees alongside the road within six months and submit a compliance report by this time. Otherwise, Majid’s bail will not be extended, the court said.
Earlier on March 3 and 4 last year, the UP chairman chopped 7 trees alongside a road in his union.
Later on March 8, District Council surveyor Md Hasanuzzaman filed a case against Majid with the Satkhira Sadar Police Station on charge of cutting the trees.
