Against the backdrop of fresh violence in Bangladesh, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has expressed his concern and called upon political parties to respect the rule of law.
He also urged all parties to ensure a favourable environment for credible and peaceful elections. “The Secretary-General has been following with concern the recent wave of violence in Bangladesh that has claimed lives and left many injured,” said the spokesperson of the Secretary-General said in a statement on Thursday.
“He calls on all concerned to respect the rule of law, exercise restraint and to express their views peacefully. The Secretary-General is hopeful that the recent steps to initiate dialogue continue and he urges all parties to ensure an environment conducive to credible and peaceful elections,” it said.
