Bandish-Gharana introduced
The ongoing workshop on classical music organised by the Bengal Foundation introduced different genres of classical music attended
by a number of music enthusiasts.
The lecture on Thursday given by Rezwan Ali Lovlu introduced Bandish-gharana a classical music genre – genre with a fixed and melodic composition – to
the riveted audiences.The word Bandish is derived from the Hindi language, meaning ‘binding together’. Bandish is the standard structure of a singing set in a specific raga.
The month-long workshop comprises of thirteen lectures. It commenced on September 26 with a lecture on the history of music jointly taken by Asit Dey and Rezwan Ali Lovlu.
On September 28, Asit Dey lectured on kheyal, dhrupad, presenting style and ornamentation in music. Maghna Ameen lectured on Carnatic music on September 03. On September 05, Saju Ahmed lectured on Kathak, and on September 10, Kamol Khalid lectured on History of Bangla songs and Aesthetics.
Around fifty to sixty music aficionados attended each lecture.
Six more lectures on different topics of classical music are scheduled to take place on October 31, November 02, 07, 09, 14 and 16. Besides lectures, documentaries and videos on classical music will be screened.
‘I have been attending all the lectures of the workshop. I thank Bengal
Foundation for arranging such a helpful workshop on classical music,’ said an
attendee Sourav Das.
‘We are happy to see that many young music enthusiasts of the country are attending the workshop. We hope to arrange such workshops every year from now on,’ Zahidul Haque, coordinator of the workshop, told New Age.
Bengal Foundation organised the workshop ahead of the second classical music festival scheduled to be held from November 28 to December 01.
