Bangla Academy, the organiser of month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair, on Thursday announced Bangla Academy Literary Award 2013.
The academy director general, Shamsuzzaman Khan, at a press conference at the academy premises announced the names of ten authors who won the award.
Helal Hafiz got the prize in poetry, Purabi Basu in fiction, Mafidul Haque in essay, Jamil Chowdhury and Provangshu Tripura in research, Kaisar Haque in translation, Harun Habib in writings on liberation war, Mahfuzur Rahman in biography and adventure, Shahidul Islam in science, technology and environment and Kaizar Chowdhury and Aslam Sani in children’s literature.
No award, however, was announced for drama.
Inaugurating the Ekushey Book Fair 2014 tomorrow, Prime minister Sheikh Hasina would hand over the prize money of Tk one lakh, a crest and a certificate to each of the nominees.
Publishers were found passing busy day with last minute preparation to decorate their stalls
before the inauguration of the fair that has been dedicated to late eminent jurist and language hero Muhammad Habibur Rahman,
also a former chief advisor to the caretaker government.
