Bangladesh A team defeated Zimbabwe A by six wickets in their first four-dayer to take 1-0 lead in the two-match series at the Cox’s Bazar stadium on Wednesday.
Resuming the day at 43-1, Bangladesh A lost another three wickets to score the required 61 runs on the final day as they made 105-4 in 38.1 overs to begin the series in a perfect style against the reasonably strong Zimbabwe side.
Man of the match Saqlain Sajib, who picked up 15 wickets for 132 runs in the match and in the process claimed record-breaking 9-82, the highest number of wickets in an innings by any Bangladeshi bowler, which scripted the win for the hosts. Zimbabwe scored 206 runs in their first innings and were bundled out for 108 runs in the second innings, while Bangladesh scored 211 all out and 105-4 to complete the six-wicket win.
Selector Minahajul Abedin, who was with the team as manager, looked to be quite happy with the outcome and praised the efforts.
‘I think this win was a timely one, considering the overall performance of our cricketers,’ Minhajul told New Age on Wednesday.
‘It will definitely boost the confidence of our cricketers as we are going to play against their national team in the upcoming series,’ said Minhajul.
Bangladesh A team made three changes for the second four-day match as they included Shahriar Nafees, Mohamamad Mithun and Dewan Sabbir replacing Liton Kumar Das, Sabbir Rahman and Muktar Ali.
Liton, who looked to be in a good form scoring 54 runs in the first innings and 42 in the second, was given rest for his leg injury.
