Bangladesh athletes Ashik Kumar Halder and Irin Akter bowed out of the semi-finals of their respective 100-metre sprint events at the 2nd Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China on Tuesday.
On the fifth day of the Games, Ashik clocked 11.54 seconds to finish last among the eight runners in his heat. Irin exited in the same manner, recording a time of 12.76 seconds to finish last in her race.
In the pool, Nazma Khatun could only claim 22nd place among 26 participants with her time of 31.79 seconds in the 50-metre butterfly event.
Weightlifter Mabia Akter finished eighth among nine participants in the 58kg category.
Golfer Afnan Mahmud secured 22nd position after hitting a 38-over-par 254. Chinese Taipei’s Yu Chun-An clinched the gold medal with a 13-under-par 203.
In the women’s golf event, Bangladesh’s Liza Akter finished in last position after scoring a 33-over-par 249. The Philippines’ Legaspi Clare Amelia claimed gold after carding a 15-under-par 201.
