Sports ReporterBangladesh completed their 3rd Indo-Bangladesh Bangla Games with 27 gold, 31 silver and 24 bronze medals in West Bengal capital Kolkata on Saturday.
On the other hand, hosts West Bengal ended their journey with 34 golds, 27 silver and 24 bronze medals.
The only gold that the visitors Bangladesh were awarded on the last day were kabaddi, though it was jointly awarded. Bangladesh were leading the match 17-15 before rain hit the match’s progress and eventually forced to abandon it.
Bangladesh lost all other team events on the day. In women’s football, the visitors conceded a 0-3 defeat to the hosts in the last match of the best-of-three affair. Aduri Khanam powered the win of West Bengal by a brilliant hattrick. She scored in 40th, 60th and 87th minutes. Earlier, the first two matches were ended in a goalless draw.
Meanwhile, the result of Kho Kho was already decided on Friday after Bangladesh lost their second match in a row to West Bengal. The fought hard in the last match and eventually lost to the hosts by 14-13.
Basketball result was also decided after the second match on Friday with Bangladesh losing both the matches. Rain forced close of the last match when it was in progress with West Bengal – 8 and Bangladesh – 2.
Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) prior to the departure revealed that Bangladesh will continue success of the recently concluded 11th SA Games Dhaka 2010. The statement came when it was known that the teams did not train for an optimum period of time. It was also known that BOA failed to hold the training due to lack of fund which the ministry was supposed to disburse.
However, BOA said that it would initiate a long term training with focus on Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 and 2012 London Olympics.
