Bangladesh celebrates today the National Girl Child Day.
The day would be celebrated this year on the theme: ‘Girl child’s progress: progress of Bangladesh.’
Besides the government, a host of NGOs would take part in the celebration.
In a message president Zillur Rahman called for taking the initiative for stopping discriminations against the girl child in all its manifestations.
He also requested the families to take the initiative to educate the girl child.
He said that coordinated efforts were needed from all the stakeholders including te government and the NGOs to ensure the rights of the girl child.
In a separate message, prime minister Sheikh Hasina said that her government implemented several programmes to ensure equal participation of the girl child in family and the society.
National Girl Child Advocacy Forum and Bangladesh Shishu Academy would hold a joint rally before the National Museum to mark the day.
Women and Children Affairs minister Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury is exepceted to lead rally to be participated by ministry secretary Tariq-Ul-Islam, Shishu Academy chairman Abdul Ahad, director Nuruzzaman, NGCAF president Badiul Alam Majumder and vice president Latifa Akand.
Later, the participants would in a procession march to Bangladesh Shishu Academy.
A discussion on the day would be held at Bangladesh Shishu Academy Auditorium on Tuesday.
