Bangladesh finished in 11th place in the Mixed Team Rapid chess at the 4th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Incheon, South Korea on Friday.
Bangladesh managed to gather 5 match points from their 5 matches, with 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw after the day’s 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds play.Bangladesh outclassed Japan 3.5-0.5 in the 3rd round, when IM Minhazuddin Ahmed Sagar got the better of Nanjo Ryosuke, and WIM Shamima Akter Liza defeated WFM Uchida Narumi.
The Bangladesh team fell in the 4th round against eventual silver-medallists Independent Athletes (India) by a score of 0.5-3.5. Only Niaz managed to eke out a draw against GM Sethuraman Panayappan Sethuram in the contest.
Wins by Sagar and Shirin earned Bangladesh a 2-2 draw with Uzbekistan in the 5th round.
China won the gold medal in the event, while Vietnam finished with the bronze.
