Bangladesh on Sunday received an award from Food and Agriculture Organisation in recognition of its progress in fighting hunger and eradicating poverty through ensuring its food security.
A total of 38 countries, including Bangladesh, were honoured with the ‘special recognition’ for their outstanding progress in fighting hunger and poverty at a special event during FAO’s 38th session conference in Rome, according to a message received in Dhaka.
Besides, Bangladesh received the ‘Diploma Award’ for its achievement in the UN Millennium Development Goal (MDG-1) by the end of 2012. A total of 20 countries received the Diploma Award.
Food minister Abdur Razzaque received the awards from FAO director general José Graziano da Silva.
Ministers and top government officials from 194 countries were present at the event.
