Bangladesh is fully ready to host the World Cup matches of its share and the opening ceremony, Bangladesh Cricket Board president AHM Mustafa Kamal declared on Wednesday.
Speaking at a Meet the Press programme, organised by the Dhaka Reporters Unity, Kamal said Bangladesh has already won the confidence of the International Cricket Council and an incident like the Kolkata Eden Gardens is unlikely to happen here.
‘We are prepared for the World Cup and are way ahead of the other co-hosts. Nothing like what has happed at the Eden Gardens will happen here which shows our sincerity,’ said Kamal.
‘This World Cup will be the defining moment in the history of our cricket,’ said Kamal, who dedicated the tournament to the martyrs of the language movement.
At the progarmme the BCB president declared that they are planning to bring 100 players under its payroll and the BCB is also working to have a separate Test team.
‘I will try to build a separate Test team with a separate captain if necessary. To do well in the longer version I will reserve some stadiums only for longer version of the game, he said.
Bangladesh, co-hosts of the February 19-April 2 extravaganza along with India and Sri Lanka, will host eight matches and the opening ceremony.
