Prodigious young batsman Nazmul Hossain scripted a wonderful hundred to lead Bangladesh Under-19 to a series-leveling 115-run win over their Sri Lankan counterparts in the second youth one-day international at the Sylhet Divisional Stadium on Tuesday.
Nazmul blasted 109 off 131 balls with the help of a dozen boundaries as the Bangladesh Under-19 team registered 255 before they dismissed Sri Lankan Under-19 for 140 in 38.1 overs.
Asked to bat, the home side rode on the back of a fine innings by Nazmul who was ably supported by Mehedy Hasan (44 off 47 balls) and Mosaddek Hossain (34 off 47 balls).
For the visitors, Binura Fernando was the most successful bowler scalping 3-43 while Roshan Anurudhda, Chamika Karunaratne and
Sanjika Ridma shared six wickets between them before the hosts put up a challenging total.
In pursuit of 256 runs, the Sri Lankan Under-19 team lost wickets at regular intervals and never really looked like threatening for the home side. Skipper Kusal Mendis was the highest scorer with 37 runs from 83 deliveries.
Jubair Hossain, who was also instrumental in the four-day series between the teams, took 4-24 to wreck the guests’ hope. Nehaduzzaman (2-20) and Mehedy (2-26) supported Jubair well as the Bangladesh Under-19 leveled the five-match ODI series 1-1.
The two teams will now travel to Dhaka for the third one-dayer at Mirpur on Friday.
