A week-long Bangladeshi film festival featuring five
local films will be held in New York, US.
The festival titled ‘Ruhana-Channel-i Film Festival USA-2013’ will feature Channel-i produced films including Humayun Ahmed’s Ghetu Putra Kamola, Nasir Uddin Yousuff’s Guerilla, Goutom Ghosh’s Moner Manush, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s Third Person Singular Number and Swapan Ahmed’s Lal Tip.
The festival will begin on May 17 at the Jackson Heights Theatre at Jackson Heights in New York. Eventually the festival will also be organised in other regions like Virginia, New Jersey, Michigan, Atlanta, Florida, Texas and Los Angeles.
Ashraful Alam, the head of Channel-i New York, said that there is a huge market of local films in the USA as over a million Bangladeshi expatriates live in New York only.
‘As no Bangladeshi film is screened in New York, the expatriates watch Hindi films. Considering these facts, we have decided to organise the film festival,’ he added.
