A Bangladeshi cattle trader was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force at Bonchowki border in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat district Saturday morning.
The victim was identified as Shahinul Islam, 27, son of Mohammad Ali, of Amjhol village under the upazila. According to Border Guard Bangladesh and locals, Shahinul was injured critically as the BSF men of Dhumerketu camp in
Cooch Bihar district opened fire on him.
The cattle trader, who was shot in the back, leg and hand, died on way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Commanding Officer of BGB 15 Battalion Lt Col Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the incident and said BGB had already sent a letter to the BSF in the morning in protest at the killing of the cattle trader.
New Age Correspondent from Kurigram reported that BSF personnel beat up two Bangladeshis at Khalisa Kotal border under Phulbari upazila on Friday night.
BSF men entered the Bangladesh territory illegally and beat them up at 10:00pm.
According to BGB and locals, Bazlul Haque, 65, a resident of Khalisa Kotal village, went to visit his daughter’s house near sub-pillar 5 of international main pillar 934.
While he was returning home, BSF men of Boskotal camp entered the Bangladesh territory illegally and mercilessly beat him up.
As victim’s daughter, Afroza Begum, came to his rescue, they also beat her up.
BGB personnel confirmed the incident on Saturday and said that they had sent a letter to BSF protesting the incident, but they were yet to get any response from the border security force.
