A Bangladeshi man was shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the border in Lalmonirhat’s Patgram upazila last night.
The deceased is Rabiul Islam, 54, of Kalabagan area undar Patgram upazila and the injured one who is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Lalmonirhat is Shahidul Islam, 30, of Burimari Kalabagan area of the district.
Patgram Police Station officer-in-charge Omar Faruk said that the police recovered the body of border killing victm Rabiul and sent it to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital morgue for post mortem examination.
He said that the incident occurred near Shamsernagar border’s main pillar number 864 at about 4:00am.
Officials of Border Guard Bangladesh and police said that a group of four or five Bangladeshis went there to bring cattle illegally from Pathantari area of West Bengal and a patrolling team of BSF opened fire on them.
They said that Shahidul was injured after being shot in the left leg.
Director of BGB-61 Teesta Battalion-2 Colonel AM Mahbubul Alam Khan said that they sent a protest letter to the BSF in this regard.
