As part of its countrywide network expansion, telecom and digital communications operator Banglalink has increased network coverage in the Chittagong division by 50% over the past year.
The operator launched next-generation 4G in the port city using new spectrum from the 2.3 GHz band and Time Division Duplex (TDD) technology, becoming the first operator in the country to do so.
Over 3200 new Banglalink Base Transceiver Stations have been constructed in the previous nine months.
The goal of the expansion drive is to give customers access to the operator’s fastest 4G network and other digital services throughout the whole country.
According to Kaan Terzioglu-the group chief executive officer (CEO) of Veon, Banglalink’s parent company- the customers of Banglalink in the region will enjoy twice as fast internet speed as a result of the technical advancements.
“Veon has already achieved the target of double-digit growth in Bangladesh. To sustain this growth trend, we are investing heavily in our network in key regions such as Chittagong,” the top brass stated in a press conference.
The ongoing efforts are expected to bring in positive changes, enhancing the digital communication- based market player’s quality of services, according to Banglalink.
“As part of our effort to transform into a truly national operator, we are expanding our strong 4G network at a rapid pace. Chittagong is a key part of our expansion plan because of its national significance as a commercial hub,”
Banglalink CEO Erik Aas said, expressing hope that both local customers and enterprises will reap the benefits of its expanded network coverage in the division.
“This kind of initiative will strengthen the technological infrastructure in Chittagong that we have built over the years. I hope that Banglalink will continue to support us in digitally advancing Chittagong this way in the future,”
Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, who was present at the conference said, appreciating Banglalink’s ongoing drive to expand its network coverage in the division.
Citing Banglalink’s development and the extension of its network to various parts of the country to ensure top-notch digital services, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder said: “Their work
is fully in line with the government’s goal of putting cutting-edge digital infrastructure everywhere in Bangladesh. We wish them continued success and stand ready to offer whatever assistance we can.”
With technological improvements taking place, the operator achieved double-digit revenue growth in the second quarter of 2022 and was even named the fastest mobile network in the country for three years in a row by Ookla.
