Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday asked the scheduled banks to keep open their branches dealing with the country’s garment industries on August 6 so that the owners can pay the salaries and wages to their workers and employees through the banks.
To this end, the BB issued a circular to managing directors and chief executives officers of all banks asking them to open their branches located in Dhaka city, Ashulia, Savar, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Chittagong so that the garment workers of the areas could receive their salaries and wages through the banks.
The BB said that it took the decision at the request of the labour and employment ministry and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association.
A BB official told New Age on Wednesday that the country’s scheduled banks were supposed to remain closed on August 6 on the occasion of Shab-e-Qadr.
