All major and important branches at the divisional and the district levels of the government and private commercial banks will remain open on Saturday for the convenience of the taxpayers to submit tax returns and pay their taxes. On the same purpose, all the income tax offices of the National Board of Revenue will remain open on Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
The Bangladesh Bank and the NBR took the decision so that the taxpayers could submit tax returns and pay taxes on public holiday as the deadline for filing income tax returns would end on September 30.
Bangladesh Bank on Thursday asked all government and private commercial banks to remain open their important branches located in the divisions and the districts of the country on Saturday so that taxpayers could submit their income taxes through the pay-orders and the challan, a BB circular said.
BB issued a circular to the managing directors and the chief executive officers of all government and private commercial banks saying that the branches would have to be remained open in the interest of taxpayers.
On the other hand, the tax administration has already instructed its field offices across the country to keep them open on Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm while the tax offices will remain open till 8:00pm.
However, the NBR might increase the time-limit for filing tax returns by at least 15 days as many taxpayers have been facing problems to find out their tax circles as the revenue board reshuffled the circles.
The decision of expansion of deadline for filing tax returns may be declared on Sunday evening, NBR officials said.
The revenue board has posted all the changes describing details of taxpayers’ area and tax offices on its web site to solve the problems, NBR member MA Quader Sarker told New Age on Thursday.
The NBR increased its tax circles to 649 from 303, he said.
